i’m familiar—
with the warmth of your joy,
the hum of your contentment,
the silence of your unsureness,
and the emptiness of your sadness.
i’m not familiar—
with the loss of life in your eyes,
and the unshed tears,
stuck like a sob in the back of your throat—
with the shape of your figure,
unmoved from the same spot all day—
with being unfamiliar
with a changed version of you.
